Wessex Heartbeat - the regional cardiac care charity has signed up the marketing and PR specialists to showcase its work and raise its profile in the community.
Wessex Heartbeat works to help Wessex Cardiac Centre at Southampton General Hospital to become and remain one of the UK’s leading centres of excellence for cardiac care. The Centre treats more than 20,000 people a year, of which over are 1,000 babies and children born with a wide range of congenital heart disorders. Patients come from across central southern England, the Channel Islands, the West Country and increasingly in the case of children from throughout the U.K.
Heart disease is the U.K’s biggest killer. - Every two minutes one of us will suffer a heart attack – almost half of the victims will die.
- Every year in this country nearly 240,000 people’s lives will be cut short by heart disease.
As Chief Executive D’arcy Myers explains ‘Wessex Heartbeats’ focus is on encouraging people to think about their lifestyles and how it affects their heart. It’s about taking steps before they actually need us”. “The charity’s mission is to ensure that everyone affected by heart disease receives the best possible support. It is not just the patient but their immediate family that need this support. We are able to offer patients relatives free of charge ‘home-from-home’ accommodation in a 25 bedroom house close to the hospital”
